On a nuclear welding inspection technician apprenticeship course, you’ll help carry out quality control and welding inspections for the nuclear industry.
The nuclear welding inspection technician apprenticeship will prepare you for this highly technical quality control role, in which you will ensure the safety and integrity of nuclear-related fabrications across licenced nuclear sites for waste management, decommissioning and construction, operational nuclear plants, and manufacturing facilities that supply the industry.
The nuclear industry has precise quality requirements backed by regulations, specifications, norms, and extensive engineering papers, all of which you must grasp to do this job. As a result, you will develop into a technician capable of working in a challenging environment where quality standards are critical and safety is of the utmost importance. Making extensive observations, maintaining complete records, and giving technical remarks are all part of this profession.
What you’ll learn
On a nuclear welding inspection technician apprenticeship course, you’ll learn to:
- Work both alone and as part of an inspection team.
- Work with little supervision and in a professional manner, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of their work.
Entry requirements
You’ll usually need:
- Five GCSEs, including maths and English.
- Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this before taking the end-point assessment.
Assessment methods
The End Point Assessment comprises two distinct assessment methods:
- Portfolio of Evidence
- Competence Interview
