On a hospitality supervisor apprenticeship course, you’ll help supervise staff and activities within hospitality businesses.

A hospitality supervisor is critical to management teams because they can independently supervise hospitality services and operating shifts.

In this career, you’ll be under pressure to offer exceptional customer service. In addition, your job demands you to encourage a group. As a result, most of the skills and material you’ll learn over your apprenticeship will be the same, although you may specialise in one field or work across several.

This apprenticeship includes food and beverage, bar, housekeeping, concierge, front office, events, and hospitality outlets. For example, as a housekeeping supervisor, you’ll keep companies looking great by organising the work of cleaners, laundry services, and room attendants.

What you’ll learn

On a hospitality supervisor apprenticeship course, you’ll learn to:

  • Contribute to and monitor operational procedures, working practices, and team performance and provide ideas for company development.
  • Use methods to monitor and control spending while staying under budget, practising strict resource management, and minimising waste.
  • Supervise the provision of a high-quality service that aids the department in attaining overall company objectives.
  • Monitor the team to verify that all processes and procedures comply with corporate / brand standards.
  • Identify problems of concern, find out the fundamental cause, and react effectively to minimise service disruption and human risk.
  • Utilise technology to the fullest extent possible in all work activities and performance.
  • Set acceptable yet challenging objectives for the team and collaborate to get the best results possible.
  • Demonstrate effective communication tactics that achieve the desired results and take action to correct poor communication within the group.
  • Assist team members in attaining their maximum potential in their jobs and discovering opportunities for promotion.
  • Implement sales and marketing strategies in one’s local area while ensuring that the team is adequately supported in carrying them out. Within your duties, provide suggestions for future sales and marketing activities.
  • Employ leadership styles and supervisory management abilities for the firm and circumstance.
  • Assure that all team members are aware of and follow the diversity policy.

Entry requirements

You’ll usually need:

  • Experience in an operational role within the industry.
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this before taking the end-point assessment.

Assessment methods

The End Point Assessment comprises four distinct assessment methods: 

  • On-demand test
  • Practical observation
  • Business project
  • Professional discussion

Duration, level, subjects and potential salary upon completion

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Level: 3 – Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Relevant school subjects: English and maths
  • Potential salary upon completion: £20,000 per annum
