Control Technical Support Engineer

On a control and technical support engineer apprenticeship course, you’ll help ensure that manufacturing runs smoothly in areas such as site maintenance.

As a control and technical support engineer, you will work with other production roles in a fast-paced, cost-conscious manufacturing environment where advanced problem solving is required.

Compliance with laws and safety regulations, using and understanding engineering data and documentation, installing, testing, commissioning, and ongoing equipment maintenance are critical tasks.

During your apprenticeship as a control and technical support engineer, you will hone your general engineering skills, maintenance and manufacturing ideas and their industrial applications, and investigation and interrogation abilities for software applications.

You will get a bachelor’s degree in engineering. This apprenticeship has been designed to meet the professional criteria of the Engineering Council for first registration as an engineering technician.

What you’ll learn

On a control technical support engineer apprenticeship course, you’ll learn to:

  • Adhere to legislative legislation and stringent organisational safety standards.
  • Assist with installing, testing, and commissioning a wide range of equipment as needed.
  • Detect and repair complex problems on high-tech developed systems.
  • Maintain the functionality of electrical, electronic, and process control equipment.
  • Prevent machine downtime via planned preventive maintenance.

Entry requirements

You’ll usually need:

  • Five GCSEs, including maths, English and a STEM subject, and A-levels in a maths subject and a STEM subject; or equivalent qualifications.
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this before taking the end-point assessment.

Assessment methods

The End Point Assessment comprises two distinct assessment methods: 

  • Case Studies Presentation 
  • Occupational Professional Discussion 

Duration, level, subjects and potential salary upon completion

  • Duration: 60 months
  • Level: 6 – Degree Apprenticeship
  • Relevant school subjects: Science
  • Potential salary upon completion: £30,000 per annum
