Can You Start An Apprenticeship At Any Age

One of the most widespread misconceptions about apprenticeships is that they are only available to school leavers. Recent government funding reforms, however, have changed the face of apprenticeships; now, you can start an apprenticeship at any age.

Apprenticeships are available to anybody aged 16 and over, including school leavers, career changers, and those wishing to improve their skills as part of their work.

From an employer’s perspective, school leavers and older apprentices may offer a variety of advantages. For example, some businesses may prefer a more mature and experienced applicant. In addition, apprentices between the ages of 16 and 18 often cost less to employ.

A company may seek to hire recent school leavers. Alternatively, they may prefer to mentor and shape people to fit their company culture.

But there are several factors to consider when deciding whether an apprenticeship is right for you as an older applicant, including salaries, financing, and career goals.
