An apprenticeship is a chance to learn, get work experience, and earn a livelihood. So what does an apprenticeship involve?
A large percentage of your working hours will be spent learning from a senior member of your company’s management team. Off-the-job training will consume at least 20% of your working time and may take the form of day release, block release, or online study in conjunction with classroom teaching.
Off-the-job training may involve travelling to college to study or having teachers come to the office and conduct sessions away from the job’s distractions. But, again, the details will be worked out with the business.
You cannot be forced to work more than eight hours per day or 40 hours per week if you are under 18 and must take a 30-minute break every four and a half hours.
Depending on the level of qualification, the apprenticeship might last one to five years. So you may as well get started right now.
Your progress will be assessed by an end-point evaluation organisation, which will consider your newly learned skills and information, your behaviour in the role, or your training provider.
