Bad salary
The salary is really bad and they pressure you too much to sell the star buys, if you are on tills you need to call your senior or your manager for everything, you can’t avoid items by yourself, you can’t take £50, you can’t do refunds… so every time you have to call your manager and you waste time, price tags are always wrong and customers complain all the time… you need to be security too and I don’t know if in other stores but in my store the toilet and the staff area were disgusting. I don’t recommend working there.
Pros
Pay break
Cons
Almost everything
Ableism
I was having mental health issues at my time working for the company and they made it much worse. They wouldn’t make any accommodations for me despite being autistic. There was no understanding. I got encouraged to quit by my manager within 2 weeks as they couldn’t fire me despite wanting to.
good entry level job to get the ball rolling
this is a fast paced job, constantly on your feet, mixing between different roles so you must have a lot of energy and enthusiasm when helping customers,
Great people to work with.
It’s a nice balance between fast paced and relaxed. People are good to work with and always helpful. Very emotionally supportive of their colleagues too! Definitely recommend.
Pros
Paid lunch Paid holidays great management
Cons
Pay could be better for younger people working there
Staff are the best bit
The staff were great fun to work with, they were always high energy, friendly and funny. The job as a sales assistant is very boring, repetitive and un-enjoyable. You have a strike rate when you are on the tills and you have to sell star buy products to get your strike rate down, and if it isn’t below 1/3 or 1/5 for example you get nagged about it your whole shift and stay on tills till it’s down. It just makes the job unenjoyable and other than tills, you don’t really do a lot as a sales assistant. You also only get a discount of 10% of everything and a bit more on own brand products. The rota system is also not great, you find out the Wednesday before the next week of shifts and your shifts change every week if you are looking for more full time jobs, unless you say you are only available weekends. You also don’t get any extra pay for bank holidays etc ever.
Pros
Friendly staff
Cons
Didn’t know shifts till last minute – bad system.
