Public Sector Compliance Investigator and Officer

On a public sector compliance investigator and officer apprenticeship course, you’ll help identify potential acts of criminality and support civil or criminal proceedings.

A compliance investigator/officer identifies suspected unlawful activity in the public sector and aids supervisory and regulatory organisations and authorities in civil or criminal proceedings.

In this role, you will be responsible for completing risk-based compliance checks and investigations utilising relevant legislation, case law, policy, and procedure so that casework may be conducted with integrity and as little technological error as possible.

You will work independently to obtain evidence using various methods, including document inspection and confrontational interviews. You’ll use your discretion and judgement to evaluate credibility, and you’ll make evidence-based decisions and recommendations, such as when and to whom to escalate an issue.

You will make recommendations and judgements within predefined criteria, obtaining authority to proceed from senior management for options that fall outside of those constraints.

What you’ll learn

On a public sector compliance investigator and officer apprenticeship course, you’ll learn to:

  • Collect, review, and analyse client records/data/information from multiple sources to identify mistakes, anomalies, or noncompliance. 
  • Create and maintain new partner/stakeholder relationships with persons involved in investigations to achieve objectives, critical initiatives, and shared interests.
  • Use information from several sources to determine the optimal course of action, escalating decisions as required to senior management.
  • Use organisational quality standards to obtain effective outcomes. 
  • Plans and prioritises tasks based on the organisation’s key performance indicators. 
  • Detect the presence/amount of risk and react appropriately to dangers to conclude cases/investigations. 
  • Write clear and concise emails, emails, and other forms of communication; creates short, clear, and accurate reports 
  • Address problems and develop solutions by combining creative and analytical thinking. 
  • Employ appropriate organisational technology with confidence to meet the various expectations of customers and stakeholders.

Entry requirements

You’ll usually need:

  • Depending on the employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience.
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level before taking the end-point assessment.
  • Meet the Civil Service nationality requirements

Assessment methods

The End Point Assessment consists of two distinct assessment methods: 

  • Professional discussion underpinned by Portfolio
  • Case Study Test

Duration, level, subjects and potential salary upon completion

  • Duration: 18 months
  • Level: 3 – Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Relevant school subjects: English
  • Potential salary upon completion: £28,000 per annum
