Apprenticeships are not the most straightforward option. Working full-time while studying requires commitment and hard work, which is not for everyone. You’ll need to show your work skills while also learning how to study for a higher-level certification.
You will be expected to succeed academically and at work, manage your time, adjust to working longer hours, and take fewer holidays than you would at school, college, or university. You may need to travel or relocate to find your ideal position.
Apprenticeships are ideal if you already know what career you want to pursue and are willing to put in the time to work and learn. Unlike in school, college, or a traditional degree programme, most of your learning will take place in your employment via on-the-job training.
To be eligible for an apprenticeship programme in England, you must be:
- aged 16 or older
- living in England
- not enrolled in full-time education
