How Do Tattoo Apprenticeships Work

Be prepared! You must do all the bad jobs, such as answering phones, arranging appointments, taking out the trash, cleaning, running errands, stocking, setting up, and tearing down stations. That’s probably all you’ll be doing for the foreseeable future.

They need you to know that you are engaged in the job and weed out the unworthy, so consider these responsibilities an honour. You’re fortunate to be here! And don’t wait for someone to tell you what to do; do it.

How do tattoo apprenticeships work?

To begin, you will work with your mentor to learn professional business skills, hygienic work practices, and tattoo design, in addition to the tedious tasks. But first, you must do a lot of looking and listening. Pay careful attention since this is the initial step of learning.

Next, you will learn how to make needles, use an autoclave, and take precautions (which you will need for blood-borne pathogen certification).

After that, you’ll start learning how to use the tattoo machine. Initially, depending on your teacher, you will tattoo fake skin, fruit, and perhaps even yourself.

After that, you’ll learn about the different machine configurations and the difference between liners and shaders. Meanwhile, you’ll be sketching and learning how to draw quickly and efficiently.

How much time does it take to finish a tattoo apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships may last anywhere from one to three years, so plan accordingly.

Will I be able to tattoo during my apprenticeship?

During your apprenticeship, you will do about 100 free tattoos. However, “free tattoos” mean that you pay for the supplies, so be sure you have a lot of money saved. In addition, you may tattoo friends, relatives, or anybody else you choose.
