Construction Site Manager

On a construction site manager apprenticeship course, you’ll help ensure that a project is completed safely and within the agreed timeframe and budget.

As a construction site manager, you will help oversee construction projects while working on-site and sometimes in offices.

Your main duties will include ensuring that safe work procedures are in place on-site and that all workers and operators adhere to those systems and safe behaviour standards.

You will monitor productivity to ensure the project is completed on time and that all activity on site adheres to contract and budgetary constraints.

You will also need to communicate with other stakeholders to ensure the project is completed following the client’s requirements and quality.

What you’ll learn

On a construction site manager apprenticeship course, you’ll learn to:

  • Set and assess objectives, identify resources and limitations, and organise activities and work methods.
  • Detect and manage health, safety, and welfare issues in line with laws, risks, and safe work practices.
  • Identify the standards required by customers and other stakeholders and carry out efficient quality management, recordkeeping, and improvement procedures.
  • Manage construction activities in a way that supports long-term growth and best practices.
  • Ensure project success, and you must be able to manage legal and contractual problems related to the site and work within commercial and legal constraints.
  • Investigate issues, determine causes and effects, and devise solutions.
  • Identify, acquire, and process information required for project management.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement innovative solutions.
  • Manage and supervise specialised contractors and operatives.
  • Detect and correct common faults in construction operations.

Entry requirements

You’ll usually need:

  • Completion of the level 4 construction technician standard; technician status or the equivalent with the industry’s recognised professional bodies; HNC in construction or equivalent qualifications and commensurate industry experience.
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this before taking the end-point assessment.

Assessment methods

The End Point Assessment comprises three distinct assessment methods: 

  • Online test 
  • Project
  • Professional discussion

Duration, level, subjects and potential salary upon completion

  • Duration: 36 months
  • Level: 6 – Degree Apprenticeship
  • Relevant school subjects: Business studies, engineering and DT
  • Potential salary upon completion: £40,000
