An apprentice is obliged by law to be paid the National Minimum Wage. Apprentices now earn £4.81 per hour.
This is less than the National Minimum Wage, but it recognises that some people are beginning their first job with no previous experience.
If you are between 16 and 24, your employer and the government will cover the cost of your apprenticeship training (including degree apprenticeships).
A business will pay you a wage, which means that graduate apprentices can graduate with no debt.
You’ll have to pay for your daily living expenses, rent, transportation, equipment, and supplies. Apprentices are not eligible for student loans.
You may, however, apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help pay for a course at an English institution or training provider.
Your income is not used to determine loan eligibility, and no credit checks are done.
Make sure you’re eligible before applying for an Advanced Learner Loan.
