You must be very practical and have problem-solving and fault-finding talents. You should also be good with people and provide excellent customer service.
Before starting an apprenticeship to get more experience, you may want to take a mechanic course in college to learn some of the skills needed for the industry.
Motor Vehicle Engineering, which can be accessed on the City and Guilds website, and Plant and Vehicle Maintenance are two college courses. Still, you can also find several mechanic courses via providers such as the National Construction College (NCC). These courses will most likely take three to four years to complete.
