On a beauty therapist apprenticeship course, you’ll help complete treatments. Beauty therapy is one of the hair and beauty industry’s largest, most recognised, professional, and ever-expanding industries. 

The work environment may range in size, style, and mood, from a cruise ship to a small bespoke salon to luxury high-end beauty salons and spas.

As a beauty therapist, you will work alone or as part of a team overseen by a manager while providing treatments.

You’ll demonstrate a desire to learn, a curious and enquiring mind, and a desire to learn about your chosen career. You’ll also have a strong work ethic and a drive to learn and develop professionally.

You’ll be in charge of delivering crucial one-on-one beauty therapy treatments while maintaining the organisation’s image, financial viability, and reputation. When it comes to safe working practises, you’ll execute professionally, without supervision, and with a high degree of precision.

What you’ll learn

On a beauty therapist apprenticeship course, you’ll learn to:

  • Carry out and uphold legal, industry, and organisational standards for professionalism in beauty therapy, as well as demonstrate a passion for the field: meet the aesthetic requirements of the organisation and the industry; Working under pressure, adhering to time management and self-management; advising and recommending beauty treatments, products, aftercare, and appointments; provide services in an economically viable time frame and at a high-quality show an understanding of equality and diversity; explain the many treatments and products available in the beauty therapy business respect client confidentiality and rights to assist clients on their path demonstrate effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills deal with problems within the scope and responsibilities of the job, seeking assistance from a senior member of staff as soon as feasible if necessary
  • Maintain effective, sanitary, and safe working conditions; follow workplace, supplier, or manufacturer guidelines for the proper use of equipment, materials, and products; respect the client’s modesty, privacy, and comfort; reduces the danger of cross-infection, accident, or tiredness; promotes environmentally friendly and sustainable working practises; and ensures personal hygiene and protection fulfils standards. 
  • Consult with clients before planning, preparing, and executing waxing procedures to remove unwanted hair from their legs, underarms, face, and bikini line.
  • Consult with customers before planning, organising, and carrying out hand and nail treatments.
  • Consult with customers, plan, organise, and perform foot and nail treatments.
  • Consult, plan, arrange, and carry out face skin care treatments and use facial products and equipment to improve and maintain client skin conditions.
  • Consult with clients, plan, organise, and carry out enhancements to the appearance of their brows and lashes.
  • Consult with clients, plan, prepare, and apply make-up.
  • Consult with customers before preparing and delivering manual back, neck, and shoulder massage treatments.

Entry requirements

You’ll usually need:

  • Depending on the employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience.
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this before taking the end-point assessment.

Assessment methods

The End Point Assessment comprises two distinct assessment methods: 

  • Knowledge Test
  • Observation  

Duration, level, subjects and potential salary upon completion

  • Duration: 15 months
  • Level: 2 – Intermediate Apprenticeship
  • Relevant school subjects: Art
  • Potential salary upon completion: £18,000 per annum
