University is not for all, nor is it necessarily the best choice. Especially given that recent statistics show that half of the university graduates end up in non-graduate jobs, taking about £44,000 in debt.
So why are apprenticeships good? Here are three reasons why apprenticeships can be superior to university education.
Money, money, money
In contrast to education, an apprenticeship helps you earn a living whilst studying (and the apprenticeship training is free!). It might not be a big wage, but it will suffice to provide you with the necessary things. On the other side, the university has annual tuition fees that start at £9,250. As a part of your apprenticeship, you will not have any debt.
On-the-job training
An apprenticeship exposes you to real-world situations and puts you squarely on the career ladder, helping you choose what is best for you. On the other hand, a graduate degree takes three years to achieve and is obtained in an institution that is not equivalent to the typical workplace. As a result, your goals will change throughout a three-year degree programme, leaving you feeling uninspired.
Recruitment
Apprenticeships appeal to companies; certain employers prefer that their employees have real-world work experience rather than just a degree. As a result, apprentices are 15% more employable than individuals with other qualifications, according to a recent survey of 500 of England’s leading firms.
