As an experienced and creative hair professional apprentice, you will take charge of your work and customer lists, accept responsibility, be proactive, flexible, and adaptable, organise your work and time, and aim for excellence by taking exceptional pleasure in your job and industry.

The work environment may vary in size, design, and mood, from a bespoke salon to the media industry, cruise ships, product businesses and manufacturers, to luxury high-end hair salons.

After completing this course, you will be a highly skilled and seasoned expert that offers fashion-forward hair trends while using your uniqueness, distinctive flair, imagination, and interpretation.

What you’ll learn

On an advanced and creative hair professional apprenticeship course, you’ll learn to:

  • Investigate current trends and utilise the results to design, create, build, produce, and present a fashion-forward hairstyle collection, defining the collection’s objective and message. Analyse the factors influencing the design and development of the hairstyle looks collection, such as the target audience.
  • Conduct in-depth discussions, and advanced assessments of the client’s hair to create, develop, and style the collection of hairdo looks. While developing the collection of hair looks, maintain efficient and safe working methods and excellent communication.
  • Internally, use a visual medium to display and promote the collection. Compare the collection results to the research outcomes to improve future practice.
  • Maintain efficient and safe working methods and excellent communication while smoothing and enhancing services. Perform a detailed inspection of the client’s hair and scalp to plan and agree on smoothing and strengthening treatments.
  • Smooth and strengthen clients’ hair to the degree of straightness using treatments, methods, and equipment. Resolve any problems that may occur during or after the smoothing and strengthening process. Under the legislation, manufacturer’s instructions, and salon policy, use various materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Evaluate the results of the service and provide suggestions for future services and products.
  • When doing Creative colour conversion services, maintain effective and safe working methods and efficient communication. Designing and agreeing on a unique colour conversion service, conducting tests and a complex, in-depth consultation with the client’s hair and scalp.
  • Investigate the factors that affected the colour conversion technique used.
  • Resolve any problems that occur throughout the creative colour conversion service.

Entry requirements

You’ll usually need:

  • Depending on the employer, but likely but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience.
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this before taking the end-point assessment.

Assessment methods

The End Point Assessment comprises three distinct assessment methods: 

  • Knowledge Test 
  • Observation and questioning
  • Professional Discussion

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Level: 3 – Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Relevant school subjects: Business studies and art
  • Potential salary upon completion: £20,000
