About us

From before they are born until they are into their twenties, we help disadvantaged children across the UK. We do it through practical services and programmes that are proven to work. We help children through fostering or adoption. We intervene early to stop neglect and abuse. We make life better for disabled children. We influence policy and advocate for change.

Nearly 7,000 staff and volunteers run over 600 services, from family centres to intensive support services, youth work to residential care homes. Together, we make a difference to the lives of 390,000 children, young people and families every year. From our origins running children’s homes, we have spent over a century working on the front line, developing services that set a lead for others to follow. We work in partnership with other charities, local authorities and health services, and are supported by a broad range of donors, campaigners, experts and specialists.

Our work depends on public support. We earn it by showing how every single thing we do makes a difference. Wherever we work all do what’s right, do what’s needed and do what works for children in the UK.

Speaking out for the UK’s most vulnerable and neglected children and young people, Delivering services that respond to local needs, Working in local communities, and Helping children and young people as early as possible

If you value your mental health stay away

The management in Swansea are terrible, they had little to no knowledge of what they deliver as part of their projects and therefore cannot support staff properly. Lots of finger pointing and lack of accountability on behalf of management, no support and a toxic work environment. I’m glad I left when o did for the sake of my mental health. Steer clear!

Pros

Time off for appointments and kids

Management couldn’t run a bath, don’t have the resources to work with the yp.

You get shipped to the other residential buildings even tho you will be told it’s the last time you get sent again.

Takes something serious to happen before they decide to look at change.

Pros

Cons

Don’t take you seriously, very patronising

After 5 years of working for AFC on a location specific project, I still had no affiliation, support or potential to progress within afc. Management have destroyed the soul of this charity which does great work. They should care about their staff as much as they do their service users.
